On Tuesday April 29, 2014, the Jackson County Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 69 near Dellwood, Florida for traffic violations. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle were identified as Travis Daniel Smith, 31 of Grand Ridge, Florida.
During contact with Travis Daniel Smith, an Investigator with the Drug Task Force observed him throwing a black object out of the passenger side window. Upon further investigation, a black in color zipper bag was discovered on the ground near the passenger side of the vehicle. Discovered inside the black in color zipper bag were illegal narcotics.
Those items included a plastic sandwich type storage bag containing powder cocaine weighing approximately 4 grams. Another plastic sandwich type storage bag was discovered, containing 9 small jewelry bags containing powder cocaine that weighed approximately 6 grams. The packaging of this cocaine is in a manner commonly associated with the sell and distribution of cocaine. Also, inside the bag was an orange unlabeled prescription bottle containing approximately 69 pieces of crack cocaine. This quantity is commonly associated with the sell and distribution of crack cocaine. The approximate street value for the crack cocaine alone is approximately $1,400.00. Furthermore, several small plastic bags that are commonly associated with packaging illegal narcotics were found in the black in color zipper bag.
In an inventory search of the defendant’s vehicle, resulted in the discovery of a small plastic jewelry bag that contained powder cocaine, which was lying in center console area. The small plastic jewelry bag found in the center console was similar to the nine small jewelry bags that had been discovered in the bag located outside Smith’s vehicle. It was also learned during the course of the investigation that Travis Daniel Smith is currently on State Probation.
Travis Daniel Smith was placed under arrest and later lodged in the Jackson County Jail to await first appearance.
