Deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a home off Lancelot Road in Defuniak Springs on Sunday, May 4th.

While in route, Dispatch informed the deputies that there were children present and stated their parents were fighting and shots were fired.  Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect’s wife.  The wife stated that she and her husband, Matthew Lynch, 30, got into a heated argument over the family’s vehicle.  The wife refused to give Lynch the keys and Lynch went into the bedroom, retrieved a Smith &Wesson and fired one round at the tire of the vehicle but missed.

Lynch proceeded to walk towards his wife and pointed the gun towards her feet and fired three to four rounds, striking the ground next to her feet.  The victim told deputies when Lynch walked out of the bedroom with the gun, the children in the home got scared and fled the residence.  Deputies found shell casings in the driveway as well as along the walkway of the home.

Deputies observed Lynch driving the family vehicle on Hwy 90.  A traffic stop was conducted and Lynch was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a weapon in a public place, obstructing justice, hinder, delay or prevent the communication to a law enforcement officer and driving while license suspended or revoked.
