FDOT Holds Public Hearing on Gulf Coast Parkway Project

Posted: Updated:
Plans for a new road connecting Highway 231 and U.S. 98 in Gulf County are in the final stages of the Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study.

The Florida Department of Transportation held a public hearing at the Springfield Community Center on Thursday evening.

Engineers from Adkins Science Engineering presented the public with five proposed routes. The FDOT recommended route is Alternative 17, which would run from County Road 386 in Gulf County to U.S. 231 near Nehi Rd. in Bay County.

The public had a chance to speak their minds on issues with each alternative and which proposal they would like to see move forward.

The Project Development & Environment Study analyzed the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the potential alternatives to determine a preferred alternative.

The FDOT is asking for the publics comments on the alternatives. To ensure your comments are added to the official documents they must be submitted by May 23rd. To submit comments you can visit the Gulf Coast Parkway website by clicking here.

After the documentation is finalized, the next part in the project schedule is the Location Design Concept Acceptance which will be announced in June 2015.
