Eglin AFB Sets Meetings on Training Sites

Posted: Updated:
The Gulf Regional Airspace Strategic Initiative Landscape Draft Environmental Impact Statement is now available for review.

In addition to the Draft EIS availability, the Air Force is holding public hearings to solicit comments on the proposed alternatives analyzed in the EIS.  The Air Force, through the GRASI Landscape Initiative (or GLI), is seeking to partner with the State of Florida to develop additional training locations and flexibility for use when training at existing military bases is not available.

Under the GLI EIS, the Air Force’s Proposed Action is to apply to be a permitted user of northwest Florida state forests for non-hazardous military training activities and to identify and use up to 12 emitter sites in northwest Florida through the GRASI Landscape Initiative.

The Air Force will also hold a series of public hearings to further solicit input from the public between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the following dates.  Hearing venues will open to the public starting at 6:00 p.m. for an open house.  The official hearing will start at 6:30 p.m. with an Air Force presentation, followed by an opportunity for formal public or government agency or representative verbal comment at 7:00 p.m. The open house session is an opportunity for community members to learn more about the GLI Draft EIS results and speak with Air Force personnel one-on-one. All members of the public are invited. Public comments are encouraged as public input supports the Air Force in making more informed decisions.
  • June 3 - Carrabelle City Hall, 1001 Gray Avenue, 6-9 p.m.
  • June 4 - Franklin County Commission Room, 34 Forbes Street, 6-9 p.m.
  • June 5 - Santa Rosa County Bagdad Recreation Facility, 4591 School Street, 6-9 p.m.

Draft EIS comments can be submitted to the website (grasieis.leidoseemg.com) or to the mailing address below by the date indicated. Although comments will be accepted throughout the analysis process, to ensure inclusion in the Final EIS, public input must be received by June 23, 2014. People wishing to mail comments or obtain further information should send them to:
