Get ready to see a lot of cyclists, runners, and swimmers around Panama City Beach on Saturday, as the 32nd Annual Gulf Coast triathlon is set to kick off bright and early.
The Gulf Coast triathlon is growing more and more every year, now drawing athletes from places both near and far. Race Director Shelly Bramblett, says the race now has participants from as far away as Europe.
The biggest issue tomorrow will be high surf during the swim portion of the race. It's something that race organizers will be watching very closely to determine if the water is safe for swimmers.
After a 1.2 mile swim near Boardwalk Beach Resort, racers will embark on a 56 mile bike ride that heads north on Front Beach Road and up Hwy 79. It will include segments on Pine Log Road and Steelfield Road before riders head back to the Beach. The race will then finish with a 13.1 mile run that will wind through the east end of Panama City Beach.
If you're traveling in any of these areas tomorrow it will be a good idea to give yourself a little extra time. Also, be sure to be especially cautious around any athletes you come across.
