A Franklin County man has been charged after hitting a man in the head with an ax handle.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, they arrived at 23 Washington Street in Eastpoint and observed EMS performing CPR on Norman Williams, who was pronounced dead a short time later.
Further investigation revealed that Williams had been in an argument with David Holstein over possibly inappropriate contact with a woman. During the argument, Bobby Joe Bullock struck Williams from behind with an ax handle just below his left ear and rendered him unconscious.
Due to the nature of the injury, an initial autopsy was unable to determine the cause of death. Bullock was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm. Pending the outcome of the Medical Examiner's autopsy, those charges could be changed to second degree murder.
