Bay County, Fla. - A sinus infection can make a person feel miserable.  Nurse Practitioner Christy Johnson from Bay Medical-Sacred Heart Family Medicine says a sinus infection occurs when the sinuses become inflamed, blocked and filled with fluid.  She says this can then lead to bacteria growth and infection.

Symptoms include:
  • Thick yellow, foul smelling nasal discharge
  • Pressure or pain around the face and eyes
  • Headache
  • Nasal obstruction
  • Congestion
  • Post-Nasal Drip
  • A cold that won't go away or gets worse
  • Fever
  • Cough

Johnson recommends that you see a doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Pain around your face or eyes with a yellow or green discharge for more than a week
  • Fever
  • Symptoms that are severe
  • Symptoms that don't get better with over-the-counter medications
