A barn in Cottondale is reduced to ashes from a Friday afternoon fire. The call came in at 12:15 p.m. and just minutes later multiple agencies were on scene. Jackson County Fire and Rescue and the Cottondale Fire Department joined forces to tame the fully involved fire. The residence was located off Lawrenceville Road and the barn had a mobile home inside.
According to Jackson County Fire and Rescue, Captain Shawn McCardle, there were no injuries reported and the agencies worked well together, "Everybody did a fantastic job, we had it controlled in about 6-8 minutes. Everybody did a fantastic job, very proud of them." McCardle says once the fire was under control, first responders spent around 30 minutes putting out hot spots. The FloridaState Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
