A Panama City man killed in a shooting this past weekend is remembered Friday with a candlelight vigil.
Family and friends of 24-year old Marqueze McGhee released 24-white balloons and marched through their neighborhood hoping to raise awareness of - what they call - senseless violence.
McGhee and 23-year old Xavier Buckler died after an exchange of gunfire early Saturday morning at the Hop-N-Pop Foot Mart on East 5th Street in Millville. McGhee's family says he would have celebrated his 25th birthday in two months.
"My son's death was very senseless, and the youth in these towns need to put the guns down," said Nikki Marqueze, McGhee's Mother. "It has really destroyed a lot of families."
"Somebody was took from us that we really love and cherished," said uncle Demitrius McGee. "That was my nephew and I love him and I won't be able to see him again.
"So, it's hard right now, but we'll make it through because God has a way for us."
The Panama City Police Department has charged two men with felony weapon possession in connection to the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing.
