Snapper Season in Federal Waters Gets Underway

Posted: Updated:

Fisherman in Bay County are reeling and dealing as red snapper season gets underway for those fishing in federal waters. Anglers hoping to reel in their limit of the tasty fish headed out on the water today. Boats like 'Gotta Believe' headed out as early as seven o'clock this morning to take advantage of the  red snapper that are 30 miles out in the Gulf.
This session has been shortening to just 9 days and a limit has been implemented of just how many can be reeled in. The red snapper bag limit is 2 fish with a 16-inch minimum size limit.

Boat captain Trey Wise of the Gotta Believe says he's glad the session is open, but still has issue with how many days he allow to fish.

"It's hard for the charter boats or the recreational fishermen to make a living in this industry," said Wise. "W can't book clients to come fish, it's a mess. there is no shortest of red snapper they are on every common wreck around.

"There is no shortage of red snapper every where you stop you are catching red snapper."
Red snapper in state waters will be open from May 24 through July 14
