Air Force Staff Sergeant Returns Home to Surprise Brother at Graduation

Posted: Updated:
Five students graduate from Panama City Marine Institute and one in particular gets an unbelievable surprise.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Bay County Government Center where four students received their GED and one got his high school diploma.

Graduate James Allen got a much bigger surprise than just his diploma. His sister, Staff Sergeant Jeannie Hackett, got a leave of absence from her deployment in South Korea to surprise him on his graduation day.

Hackett is in the Air Force and she hasn’t been home in almost a year. She flew more than 25 hours to be here for her brother and the two were at a loss for words.

“I just … overwhelming happiness and joy and I don’t know, nervousness still,” said Hackett. “I’m just so proud of him, he’s worked so hard and come so far and he’s the coolest kid brother that anyone could have so I don’t know just all kinds of emotions.”

Hackett kept the secret of her surprise from her whole family. She will be home for a little over a week before she has to return to South Korea.
