Baseball players from the high school to the collegiate level waited to hear their name called as the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft started on Thursday. While no local players heard their name called in rounds one and two, Friday proved a different story.
Marianna graduate Michael Mader heard his name in the 3rd round Friday, taken with the 105th overall pick by the Miami Marlins. Mader spent the last two seasons at Chipola, and signed with Florida State back in November, but says he will sign a pro contract and end his college career.
Another Chipola Indian was taken on Friday, as outfielder Danny Mars was selected in the 6th round by the Boston Red Sox.
