Bonifay Police Warn Against Phone Scam

Posted: Updated:

Police in Bonifay want to make the public aware of a phone scam effecting the area. Over the past few days several reports have been filed with the Bonifay Police Department concerning the scam from a local number. The phone calls usually begin with a recording asking if that person would like to lower their interest rate on their credit cards. The caller ID shows a local number to make it appear they are calling from a legitimate company.

They usually do not state the name of the company they are calling from and after telling you to dial a different number they connect you to a live person who then asks for your credit card information. These people are convincing and are scam artists. Police are urging the public to remember to never give personal information over the phone to someone who calls. If you do fall victim to these scams contact your bank and credit bureau.
