The Bay County Sheriff’s Office issued a scam warning this afternoon after receiving two complaints yesterday from local victims of a scam involving the use of online websites to facilitate a change of address with the US Postal Service.
After using the website, the victims stated they paid the fee but their addresses were never changed.
The US Postal Inspector warns customers that the postal service is not affiliated with any business that owns websites offering a change of address for a fee. Instead, customers are encouraged to go to any local post office to get a change of address card or use www.usps.com to change a mailing address. The US Postal Service does not charge a fee to change an address.
