Navy League Honors Sailors of the Year

Posted: Updated:
Nearly a dozen military men and women were honored for their hard work and dedication to our country Tuesday Night.
The Bay County Council of the Navy League of the United States hosted a dinner for eleven Sailors and Juniors Sailors of the Year along with their family and friends at Captain Anderson's Restaurant.

The different commands at Naval Support Activity Panama City and the U.S. Coast Guard Station Panama City select a sailor each year for the honor.

"I'm very honored to be here," Kristen Varga said.  "I'm here with my fiance so of course it's really special and to be here with everyone else who is being honored is really great."

"You do a lot of hard work throughout the year and put forth your best effort. It's nice sometimes to be recognized for those efforts," Brian Holley said.

"[These Sailors] are actually the backbone of the Navy, and these are the folks who really make it happen," Rick Weston, President of the Bay County Council, said.  "These are some outstanding folks around you. These are the best of the best of these particular commands in this past year."

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902. The organization of civilian citizens works to enhance the moral among military members and their families, promotes a stronger sea service to Congress, and supports youth programs in the community.
