The Panama City Police Department announces the arrest of  Khiry Ross, 24, and Marcus Mathis, 25. Ross is charged with an open count of murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition. Mathis is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

The arrests stem from an investigation of a shooting that occurred on Monday at approximately 3:22 in the morning at KJ’s Nightclub, 908 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

Officers responded to the above location in reference to a report of gun shots. Once on scene officers learned that Jshun Smith, 20, of Atlanta, GA received life threatening injuries due to a gun shot wound. Smith was transported to an area hospital where he later died of those injuries.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Ross and Smith had previously been in a verbal altercation inside the club. Once outside, Ross displayed a firearm and fired several shots, striking the victim. Ross and Mathis then fled the area in a vehicle driven by
Mathis.

Both Ross and Mathis were questioned by Panama City Police Department detectives and then transported to the Bay County Jail. Both Ross and Mathis are expected to appear before a local judge on Wednesday.
