Man Charged with Filing False Report with Deputies
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motel on Front Beach Road on June 11 at about 2 PM in reference to a 911 call reporting a suspicious incident with a juvenile.
Deputies responded and make contact with the man who made the 911 call. Brandon Wilson Farthing, age 41, a transient, spoke to deputies and stated a woman staying at the motel approached him and attempted to sell a child to him. Farthing gave a physical description of the woman and child and the vehicle the woman was driving, a red Ford Ranger.
Additional deputies and investigators with the BCSO Criminal Investigations Division made contact with the woman at the motel and initial interviews were conducted. Additional help with the investigation was supplied by the Special Investigations Division. Also contacted was the Gulf Coast Children’s Advocacy Center. A Child Protection Team was assigned to this case.
Subsequent investigation concluded today that Farthing had been untruthful with the information he gave on the 911 call and to the initial responding deputy. He was arrested and charged with Filing a False Report. The woman with the child also had two other children with her and was in desperate need of help in caring for the children. The Department of Children and Families (DCF) also assisted in the investigation.
The Gulf Coast Children’s Advocacy Center supplied the most urgent needs and the family has been assisted in reuniting with extended family to receive additional help.
